PUNE, June 6: Municipal Commissioner Arun Bhatia on Saturday continued his drive against political bigwigs when he registered a complaint against Ajay Metachem Pvt Ltd, for water theft. The company is owned by nephew of Nationalist Congress Party leader Sharad Pawar.

He also revoked the permission of using the open space at Savarkar Bhavan to Sai Services Station Pvt Ltd, owned by the Kalmadi family.

The complaint has urged the police to take necessary penal action against the company for illegally using the Katraj lake water for the commercial purposes. The complaint says water supply department officials had visited the site from time to time and confirmed that Ajay Metachem was illegally using the water.

The PMC had sent a notice to the company on July 25, 1995 asking it to pay water tax. However, the company had not paid the tax till date, the complaint says. It adds that the PMC had suffered a loss of about Rs 26 lakh during the last ten years because of illegal use of the lake water.

Meanwhile, a spokesman of Ajay Metacham clarified that the company did not have any manufacturing unit at Bibwewadi and was not involved in illegal use of water from Katraj lake. The spokesman said Bharat Foundry Services has manufacturing unit there and that it had obtained permission from the municipal corporation to use the water. He protested against Municipal Commissioner Arun Bhatia8217;s 8220;false8221; statement to the media.

In another development, Arun Bhatia on Saturday sent a letter to Sai Services Station Pvt Ltd revoking the permission to use the parking and open space of Savarkar Bhavan. Bhatia, in his letter, has said the civic body had allowed the company to use the back margin of Savarkar Bhavan, owned by municipal corporation, to display vehicles for sale. The letter says the permission itself was illegal since development control rules categorically state that rear margin of the building should be used for parking.
