The US authorities will compensate three students for their wrongful arrest during a roundup of 400 protesters in a park in September 2002 while the meetings of World Bank and IMF were going on. It was agreed that each student will get between $7,000 to $10,000. The case involving the students is one of four filed against the district of Columbia.
The lawsuits stem from the police department’s decision to cordon off the park and arrest everyone inside it. An internal investigation found that the arrests were improper as the police failed to give people in the park a chance to disperse and arrested them.
