CHANDIGARH, Nov 3: A college Development Council Fund is likely to be imposed on all students from the next academic session. This along with a revision of building fund is also on the agenda of the principals8217; conference being organised by Punjab University from the next session.
The present building fund being charged from students is Rs 20 per annum and is likely to be increased to Rs 120 per annum. The amalgamated fund is likely to be increased to Rs 200 per annum from the present rate of Rs 40 per annum. The college development fund will be charged at the rate of Rs 20 per student from all students of arts, science and commerce.
The building rate and amalgamated fund charges had become controversial as during one of the meetings of steering committee of colleges, some teacher activists had charged various colleges of charging excessive amounts of building fund from the students. This, they said, was often done without informing the university. Since colleges had complained that the amount charged was too meagre, a hike has been proposed in this fund.
Other items in the agenda include strengthening of vocational courses in colleges with assistance from the UGC, faculty improvement programme by organising workshops/study weeks for college teachers especially in the subjects where the syllabi had been recently changed.
