Even as opinion polls projected a rosy picture ahead for the Congress, the party on Wednesday said “coalition is not a permanent arrangement” and it was but natural for a national party like Congress to think of coming to power at the Centre on its own.

At the same time, the party, leading the UPA, made it clear that the Central coalition would last its full term and it was not entertaining ideas of going to mid-term polls.

“Coalition is not a permanent solution. Congress is thinking of coming to power on its own,” AICC Media Department Chairperson Janardan Dwivedi told reporters.

Dwivedi, who is also the AICC general secretary, made it clear that at present, Congress was fully observing the principles (Maryada) of coalition and do not want anyone else also to violate them. “At the moment, we are committed to the present coalition and cannot think of anything else”.

He parried questions on when Congress could think of coming to power on its own by remarking that “time will decide things in future”.
