There8217;s no letup in the war of words between Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav over collection of funds for the former8217;s birthday bash.
Today, Mayawati produced coupons for SP8217;s fund collection for a programme in Etawah and alleged that it was being done to topple her government through horse-trading.
She was reacting to the SP producing coupons alleging that the BSP was using them to collect funds for her birthday on January 15 and had sought a CBI inquiry into the 8216;8216;scam8217;8217;. Now the Chief Minister has demanded a CBI inquiry into the SP fund collection drive.
At a press conference, the Chief Minister said the coupons, in denomination of Rs 100 each, had been printed for a felicitation programme of Mulayam in Etawah, scheduled for January 25. 8216;8216;I want to know the rationale behind felicitating Mulayam Singh Yadav in his hometown at this time. Is it because he has failed to form a government or is it because he has failed in his efforts to topple my government?8217;8217; she asked.
She alleged that the SP was taking money from contractors and industrialists, assuring them of unlimited benefits on coming to power. 8216;8216;These people are telling industrialists that they are on the verge of forming government in UP and the money collection is obviously for buying of legislators,8217;8217; she alleged.
An SP spokesperson admitted that the coupons were printed for party8217;s fund but denied that the party was indulging in arm-twisting. 8216;8216;We are not in the government and we are collecting money for party funds,8217;8217; the spokesman said.
