All these years, Karnataka’s heritage showpiece, Hampi, has been crying for official attention. Finally, it needed a Hollywood star to show them the way.
On Thursday, during the shooting of Jackie Chan’s The Myth here, someone threw a gutka sachet towards a temple. Chan, who saw that, immediately picked the packet and dropped it in a garbage bin. That sparked off a buzz and by Friday afternoon, there were more than 10 garbage bins around the famous Virupaksha Temple where the shooting was going on.
‘‘Hampi is an excellent place. It’s surprising that Indian cinema has not exposed it to the outer world. I’m going to be here for a short time now. But I will come back to visit this magnificent kingdom,’’ said Chan, who is here with 12 artistes, including a troupe from Mumbai.
Most of the film has been shot in Shanghai, while the Hampi bit is being filmed at Mathanga Hills, Lotus Mahal, Anjaneya and Vijaya Vittala temples. The crew will be here for another week.
