Discerning art
“These paintings are meant to stimulate the intelligence of the viewer,” says artist Manohar Singh Advani, whose works are on display at an exhibition at the Rabindra Kala Kunj. The use of vivid, eye-catching colours and imaginative abstract themes, with a touch of the surreal, mark his oil paintings.

Advani, a retired army officer, started work on the paintings two years ago. This is his first solo exhibition in the city. The idea underlying most of the abstract themes is the creation of vibrations through the juxtaposition of contrast and harmony, he says. The exhibition will be on display till Sunday.

Spouse grouse
So whose wife is it anyway? Mistaken identities, a bachelor, his penny-pinching uncle and the neighbourhood drunk make up this farce that hits town on November 21, at 9.30 p.m., at the Poona Club cinema hall. The play, which has come in from Mumbai, has a host of television actors – Dinayar Contractor (the director, also playing the stingy Uncle, Sam Ready Money), Paritosh Painter, Ninad Kamat, Vishnu Mehra, Jayesh Thakkar, Richa Pallod, Shradda Nigam and Mona Ghosh.

Although hailed as a Rolls Royce of a farce,’ the choice of the name is a bit of a stinker, more like a beat-up vintage – after all, you wouldn’t be describing anybody’s wife as “it,” would you?

Looking for a face
Wannabe models, watch out! Here’s one way you could get your big break. All you have to do is look good at Jalwa Live, a dance party at the Vrindavan Gardens featuring DJs Akbar Sami and Ryan Beck and you could end up being the chosen one at a model search.

Says Suraj Pardesi, proprietor, Venus Models Inc., the talent promotion agency organising this Mega Model Search, “The judges will mingle with the crowd and pick out 10 of the best-looking men or women. We will offer them the chance to be groomed for modelling by our agency and those we find promising will then be promoted free of cost.” Pardesi says the idea behind the search is to give fresh faces a chance to display their talent.

Playwright on the move
Rucha Humnabadkar is a young playwright from Hyderabad, with many a plan up her sleeve. This 20-year-old worked as production assistant with Nagesh Kukunoor during the making of his film, Hyderabad Blues. And also played a supporting role in the film.

“I learnt a lot about production and direction then,” says Rucha, who wrote, directed and staged her first play, Sans Choice, last year. She had already launched her own theatre group, Confetti, before she apprenticed under Kukunoor. Rucha is currently in Pune, working on producing a play in the city, under the aegis of the event-managing company, Entre Nous. And is seeking young actors who would be interested in working with her.

21 days to bliss
You wanna attain eternal bliss? Shake, dance and be absolutely still. Do this for an hour everyday, from today, for a good 21 days. In short, participate in Kundalini Meditation, organised by the Osho Commune International at the Oswal Bandhu Samaj on Shankarshet Road. And you won’t be alone – the whole world will join you – not at the same venue though. The Commune is organising this meditation “for health and happiness” in various centres of the world simultaneously.

The meditation involves shaking your body for 15 minutes and then dancing for another 15. This over, you have to be still – sitting or standing – for a good 15 minutes and finally lie down, remaining motionless for 15 more. The meditation promises to rejuvenate you, releasing you of negative vibrations and stress. Maybe you should try it.
