Literary delights
An ethnic literary treat came to a close on October 23 in what was an exhibition of various Marathi Diwali magazines. Organised by the Diwali Varshik Ank SamitiDIVA 8211; a year-old association, the exhibition brought together a collection of magazines celebrating Diwali with a range of topics to cover the festival. The publications covered almost every relevant subject as there was something for everyone to read, ranging from food to fiction. Magazines on astrology and science seemed popular among the visitors. Organisers saw the exhibition as an opportunity of taking to the public the magazines that would not normally be available at book stores. An added flavour to the usual fare of delicacies.

Show with heart
There are shows and there are shows, but this is for the first time that a music concert in Pune will have a huge 9 X 12 ft screen fitted for those who are seated far and cannot see the artist on stage. Asha Bhonsale the Queen of Indi-Pop will be performing live on November 14 at the SSPMS grounds as part of her all-India tour. And since the event managers, Entertainment India, expect a crowd of 15,000 people, they expect that this very real problem will arise. With the help of Unirapport Events, Mumbai, they plan to have this huge screen fitted as a giant backdrop for the magic that Asha Bhonsale will create on stage. Visibility will surely not be a problem at this most happening nite in Pune.

It8217;s most happening not only because of the 9 X 12 ft. screen but also because of the huge funds that it plans to raise for the benefit of CRY. Says Manisha Kulkarni senior executive of CRY, 8220;With recession affecting our supporters, this is the other avenue we are exploring to raise funds to support our various activities. The estimated profit from this concert is Rs 10 lakhs which CRY stands to gain.8221; Are they confident of Entertainment India handing over such huge amounts? 8220;Yes we have looked into the legal aspect and will ensure that the profits do go where they belong8221;.
