An advance in hope Seems like the Kargil conflict has bared the empathetic side of people. At a meeting organised by the National Centre for Advocacy Studies NCAS, a social change resource centre, to discuss people8217;s right to information, various citizens and NGOs discussed the need to extend help to the people of Orissa. Present at the meeting were Baba Adhav of Hamaal Panchayat, Pramila Swain of Friends Association for Rural Reconstruction, Orissa, FARROand John Samuel of NCAS, who decided with the other members that Pune should do its bit for the people of Orissa.
After consulting Swain, the members present felt that the best way to help the disaster victims would be by constructing a school in one of the villages that FARRO chose. For this an appeal would be made to the citizens and badges worth Rs 5 would be sold. Other material that people would want to donate would be collected at Hamaal Panchayat8217;s office. NCAS is to undertake the responsibility of communication between the various groupsinvolved in this project. In fact Laxmi Narain secretary, Ekvishva Vidyalaya, Jaipur has promised to donate the education material, once the building is ready.
