Axing parental angst
Teaching kids can sometimes become quite a chore. And with examinations around the corner, most parents go through what is commonly termed the pre-examination blues. And that is precisely why C.A.R.E. has organised a workshop for parents – Creating Children That Excel.’

As the name suggests, this three-day workshop, commencing on March 8, will show parents how to make learning a joy for children and help them excel. The most important thing a parent can learn here is to develop teaching skills that would create children who love learning, study with fun and work independently.

It also includes techniques that help in improving memory, retention skills and dealing effectively with exams. So the next time the month of April draws near, parents need not get the jitters.

Boogie nites
Friday night and the entire city is abuzz with happening dos. Adding their bit are the Kinley Nites, that have returned with a bang. Ten Downing Street will stage these nites on the first Friday of every month. The event, in case some have forgotten, specialises in getting a celebrity down from Mumbai to host and participate in a plethora of games, deejay and even play bartender.

Well, for the first Friday of March, Rani Jeyraj will grace the pub, followed by Rakshanda Khan, Nafisa Joseph and Amrita Arora in the months to come. What’s more, there is no entry or cover charge on these nites but you do need a date to qualify for entrance. Loads of prizes like free laps at the 1st Track Go-Kart racing, pool and games coupons and T-shirts are other attractions at these regular monthly dos managed by Jaws Events.

Space marketing
If THERE is one thing that usually throws a spanner in one’s business plans, it is the lack of premises from where you could execute your venture. Attempting to solve this perennial problem is Aundh’s Sanskriti Art Gallerie, that has made available 1500 sq. ft. of spacious and well-designed space for all those wanting to exhibit their creations with a view to sell. Be it handicrafts, garments, paintings or toys.

A result of Neeta and Girish Deshpande’s brainchild, Sanskriti has an added advantage for folks living that side of the town who had to hitherto troop down to Camp for their purchases. Not only are they now able to have a variety of different items by way of the exhibitions held here, but the gallery has even proved helpful in keeping them abreast of the market trends around town.

Colours of dhoom
The festival of colours, Holi, marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring. And what better way to celebrate it than with splashes of water accompanied by great music. The Ganga Retreat, Nagar Road, presented a riot of colours on March 2, with the city’s youngsters having gathered there for the Contessa Select Show.

Delhi band Euphoria (of the Dhoom Pichuk Dhoom fame) was in full swing at the site, dressed to kill in their camouflage fatigues, literally singing in the rain. The organisers had supplied water sprinklers to provide rain’ and everyone had a great time as they got drenched in true holi spirit. A refreshing way to tune into spring?

Safety on top
Trekking and mountaineering can be an uphill task in more ways than one. Inadequate information about the routes or facilities available and lack of medical aid are problems many trekking and mountaineering organisations and individual trekkers face. Help is on its way in the form of a Pune Mountaineering Association, a district-level organisation that plans to address these problems.

Says Chandrakant Chepe of Girikujan, one of the organisers, “There are about 80 trekking and mountaineering organisations in the district. We need to co-ordinate our activities to our benefit. Our plans include getting expert trekkers and mountaineers to speak about their experiences, informing trekkers about first-aid and safety measures, approaching the government about matters that concern us.” A meeting to call such organisations from all over the district has been planned at the Vedashastrottejak hall at 7.30 p.m. on March 6.
