Speak easy
Priya Tendulkar is known to grill folks on her talk shows, but now it’s her turn to face the fire – on December 9 at the Patrakar Bhavan. In Pune to give away the Yuva Pune Gaurav Puraskar, instituted by local youth group Yuva Bharati, to Shrikant Mundada, a live interview with her will follow the award ceremony. Questions, queries, suggestions, hints – it’s your turn to ask. But make sure you behave well, remember, Rajni is going to be in town!

Intern-al inquiry
The NDA ball held last week was easily one of the most well-organised and enjoyable evenings in recent times. Creating some ripples was one of the queries put to a contestant in the running for the title of the NDA Queen. It went: “What advice would you give Monica Lewinsky were she to join NDA as private secretary to the Vice-Commandant?” The answer came swift and easy, with contestant Deepika replying that the VC has a beautiful wife whom he loves a lot, and unlike Clinton, we Indians still respect and adhere to our values. The confident answer got her not just a bagful of appreciative nods but also the coveted crown.

His Master’s Voice
Mandar Agashe’s Nazar Nazar is finally out, with the Puneite making his debut as a singer with this album. While the video has received appreciation, it remains to be seen how the album will fare as far as sales go. The first copy, incidentally, was presented to Sachin Tendulkar, who, apparently, was quite impressed by the “soothing music and meaningful lyrics” and hoped that all youngsters would enjoy listening to the album as much as he had. Howzzat for encouragement?!

Glitter `n’ glamour
All that glitters is going to be on display at the Poona Club on December 5, courtesy a jewellery exhibition being put together by Shekhar and Prashant’s Ventures Entertainment. Come evening and the emphasis will shift to clothes and a haute-shot fashion show. With top-notch models like Bipasha Basu, Bikram Saluja, Helen Brodie, Pooja Mishra, Aditi Govitrikar and Tejaswani Kohlapure slated to grace the ramp alongwith performances by Indo-Brazilian pop singer Carlyto Momhini and the Infinity group, it may just be worth it to brave the December chill and put in an appearance for a combination of the stars and the sparkle.

The Great Escape
Chhatrapati Shivaji’s daring escape from Mughal court in Agra and his journey back to the historic fort of Rajgad to meet his mother Jijabai has fascinated many a history buff. In commemoration of that daring escape, the Shri Shivaji Rajgad Smarak Mandal, a voluntary organisation, holds various activities. As part of the celebrations this year, it has put together a lecture and slide show at the Kaladarpan Hall, near the Narayan Peth Police Chowkey, on December 4 at 6 p.m. Vivek Deshpande, president, Yuvashakti, and history research scholar Sameer Kulkarni will present lectures on the historical facts revolving around the fort.

Says Deshpande, “Rajgad was the pre-coronation capital of Shivaji’s empire for almost 25 years. It is a historic fort which has witnessed many noteworthy events, including the military campaign against Fateh Khan, Shivaji Maharaj’s joyful meeting with his mother after he escaped from Agra.” Entry will be free of cost.
