Cause concern
You would expect them to concentrate on climbing up the corporate ladder. But students of the department of commerce and management studies, University of Pune also have their say about social causes. Last Saturday the first year students of business administration staged a street play near the University8217;s open canteen, Shantiniketan. It aimed at spreading awareness about the various kinds of pollution and the individual8217;s role in countering it. Noise pollution especially during Ganeshotsav, polythene bags and the dangers they pose to the environment, engines idling on traffic junctions causing pollution were some of the topics touched upon. 8220;Even so- called educated people are unaware about how they contribute to pollution. We want to perpetuate social awareness among the people through these plays. Among the other plays that we have staged were those related to corruption and the necessity of voting,8221; says lecturer A S Mathrani, who co-ordinates the plays. Now, that8217;s management with a human face.

Marathe magic
This October, Vikram Marathe is the Malaka Spice artist of the month. The South East Asian specialty restaurant in Koregaon Park will feature canvases by Marathe, an artist who heads for the great outdoors for his inspiration. Ice-capped Himalayan ranges, scenes from the Sahyadris have been captured on canvas in abstract form and strong colours. The exhibition which will be on show till October 20 is jointly organised by the restaurant and indiaart.com, a website devoted to Indian art and artists. Creative bestTO unlock the creative spirit, the British Library, Pune has organised workshops on literary trends and techniques. The first workshop is slated for October 24 and is for students doing undergraduate courses and those interested in the new millennium writing and creative experience. The workshop aims at putting participants through the process of creation to discover new ways of self-expression and even their untapped talent.

The well-known writer and poet Randhir Khare and Susan Bullough, who specialises in Arts and Intercultural Education will conduct the workshops. At a nominal fee the closing date for registration is October 15.

Busy Lizzi
Pune8217;s celebrated hair-stylist Lizzi has another feather to her cap. Her second parlour was opened at Kamla Arcade, Deccan Gymkhana. And it was so celebration with a party on Sunday at Holiday Inn8217;s Pub Carousal. City model Raman Lamba had an informal catwalk clad in Contours creations. Other models that charmed the crowds were Amrita Lamba, Indranil, Priya, Rohit Chopra and Ravneesh. A dance sequence followed with Zubair DJing. The icing to the cake was Lizzi giving her invitees a few hair tips. The show was compered by Carson Dalton.
