If the Right to Information RTI Act empowered citizens by providing a weapon to keep a check on the administration and bring in transparency in Government functioning, the flip side is the misuse of the Act.

In Pune, the CIC has identified a person who sought information under RTI for commercial use. The Commission has asked for a report in the 73 cases filed by him under different names.

8220;The possible misuse of the RTI Act came to light during a report submitted by the tehsildar of Haveli taluka and the Appeal Authority for the taluka. It was revealed that 73 applications with different names had been filed with the Commission. The handwriting in the applications were same,8221; Chief Information Commissioner Pune division Vijay Kuvalekar said.

During a hearing, the Appeal Authority for Haveli taluka submitted that an application has been filed under a fictitious address by one M N Patil, Kuvalekar said.
