CHANDIGARH, Dec 4: A protest march was taken out by the Christian community of Chandigarh as part of their national protest day. The rally was taken out following the directives of the Catholic Bishop8217;s Conference of India and the United Christian Forum for Human Rights in protest against the alleged atrocities on the community.

All the convent schools in City remained closed in protest today. The rally started from the Catholic Church, Sector 19 and wrapped at the Housing Board Chowk in Sector 17. The members of the community wore black badges and carried ply cards.

quot;Stop atrocities on Christians, respect the dignity of women, give Dalit Christians their rightsquot;, were the slogans being displayed. Bishop Rego addressed the participants and led a delegation which presented a memorandum to the UT Administrator and the Chief Ministers of Punjab and Haryana.

The community demanded adequate steps to check the quot;onslaughtquot; of certain fundamentalists organisations on the church and its functionaries.
