Christian girls to come under shagun scheme8217;

CHANDIGARH, June 21: The Punjab council of ministers, in its meeting held on June 19 under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal decided to cover christian girls under shagun scheme8221;, according to which the eligible girls belonging to Christian community would be given Rs 5,100 as 8220;shagun8221; by the government on their marriage.

Under the shagun scheme, government is already giving Rs 5100 to Scheduled Castes on their marriage, the money is given subject to some conditions. The same conditions would be applicable in case of Christian community.

The population of Christian community in the State is approximately 2.25 lakh 1991-census.
