Telugu matinee idol Chiranjeevi8217;s fledgling Praja Rajyam Party claimed that it was the only alternative to the ruling Congress in Andhra Pradesh.

8220;Since Congress is in power, we say that we are the real alternative to the ruling party. We say this on the basis of our strength in the state,8221; Praja Rajyam8217;s spokesman P Mitra told reporters in Hyderabad.

He rejected Congress claims that Praja Rajyam Party would come a cropper in the Assembly elections. Chiranjeevi launched his party on August 26 at a massive public meeting in the temple town of Tirupati.

Several senior leaders, including K Vidyadhara Rao, B Nagi Reddy and his wife Sobha and T Sitaram from the main opposition TDP, have joined the new party.
