
CHANDIGARH, JAN 22: The messiah of the farmers, Chhotu Ram was remembered on his birth anniversary on the occasion of Basant Panchami at a function organised by the Jat Sabha at the Jat Bhavan today. Haryana Home Minister Mani Ram Godara was the chief guest at the function.
Chhotu Ram is remembered for the measures he took to improve the conditions of the needy farmers. His birthday, which falls on Basant Panchami has a story to go with it. When asked by the farmers about his birthday for the celebrations, he asked them to take the day most dear to them which was the Basant Panchami as his birthday.
Speaking on the occasion, the president of the Jat Sabha, M.S.Malik highlighted the deteriorating conditions of the farmer community. He said that the agriculture sector was the most neglected one and the rural poverty persisted due to the ever widening income disparities. He said that the society would have to come forward to bridge the gap.
On the occasion, Mani Ram Godara gave a grant of Rs 31,000 for the promotion of quality education of the children of the small farmers.
