Chargesheet filed against Parekh

Kolkata Police on Thursday filed its first chargesheet against main accused Ketan Parekh and 18 others in the Rs 120-crore scam at the Calcutta Stock Exchange in 2001 that left the bourse crippled.

Kolkata Police on Thursday filed its first chargesheet against main accused Ketan Parekh and 18 others in the Rs 120-crore scam at the Calcutta Stock Exchange in 2001 that left the bourse crippled.

Among others charge-sheeted are: Dinesh Dalmia, Harish Biyani, Dinesh Singhania, RH Mewawala, and Kamal Parekh.

With that the noose is tightening around those involved in the scam. Among the 19 chargesheeted, 14 are in custody while four are yet to be arrested. They are Sanjay Jain, an associate of Dinesh Singhania, and three officials of SHCIL8212;Mewawala, JV Murthy and L Vishwanathan. The fifth one, Bhagawati Prasad Singhania, has passed away.

Alok Biyani, Ramesh Chandra Biyani, Basudeb Singhania, Vijay Singhania, Gopal Singhania, Raj Kumar Patni, Ashok Poddar and former vice-president of the CSE KK Daga are the other arrested accused.

Kolkata Police officials said investigations are continuing and the case will be come up for trial before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate on June 12. The accused were booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code like 467, 477A and 409, relating to fabrication of accounts, forgery of documents and securities and criminal breach of trust.
