Mandela’s remark hurting: PM
At a state banquet yesterday night, Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee voiced India’s hurt and outrage at South African President and NAM Chairman Nelson Mandela’s mention of the Kashmir issue in his inaugural speech. Mandela had suggested that the aegis of NAM could be used in helping to resolve the dispute while India has maintained that there can be no third party intervention on Kashmir, a report from Durban says.

229 killed in air crash
A swissair jetliner crashed into the Atlantic Ocean off Nova Scotia, killing all 229 people on board, after its pilot attempted an emergency landing at the Halifax International Airport. Swissair said today that the plane’s 215 passengers – two of them babies – and 14 crew members were killed in last night’s crash.
