PM showcases Kargil, flaunts Agni II
Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee today deftly overcame the handicap of his caretaker status and used his Independence Day speech to present his credentials to the nation as the man to lead India into the 21st century. It was a carefully crafted address and without sounding like an election speech, it managed to kick off Vajpayee8217;s poll campaign. His 26-minute speech dwelt at length on the Kargil conflict and he underlined his main poll plank of national security by announcing the induction of the long-range Agni-II ballistic missile into India8217;s arsenal.
