US, Britain bomb Iraq; five killed
Hundreds of missiles rained on Iraq early today killing at least five persons and wounding 30 in the heaviest military strikes in nearly a decade by the United States and Britain hitting several targets for Baghdad8217;s failure to cooperate with the United Nations weapons inspectors. Tomahawk Cruise missiles pounded targets in the Iraqi capital since 3.20 a.m. IST as a defiant Iraqi President Saddam Hussein asked his forces to fight back the Anglo-American air strikes, code named Operation Desert Fox. Iraqi officials said children were among the injured, most of whom suffered burn on their faces and hands as some of the targets were set on fire by the missiles.

Tohra served notice by SAD
As the factional fight in the Akali Dal continued to escalate, the disciplinary action committee of the party issued a show cause notice to senior leader and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president Gurcharan Singh Tohra for violating party discipline. In another development, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal is learnt to have called upon Akal Takht Jathedar Bhai Ranjit Singh again. quot;I will react only after receiving the show cause notice, quot; Tohra said, reiterating he would not post any threat to the Akali Dal -BJP government in the state.
