PHAGWARA: The Bahujan Samaj Morcha is emerging as the third political power in Punjab, as the people have rejected Kanshi Ram8217;s Bahujan Samaj Party. This claim was made by BSP founder Satnam Singh Kainth, MP, here today.He said the BSP had lost its credibility due to its selfish, wrong and corrupt policies. He alleged that the BSP could not come up to the expectations of the dalits.He announced that panchayat elections would be contested in alliance with Shiromani Akali Dal Badal and Bharatiya Janata Party.
Health care
MOGA: Punjab is the only state in the country where the state government has launched a special health care programme for pregnant mothers and made provision for safe delivery allowance.The state health department has launched a special fortnight drive from June 1, for conducting a door-to-door health care survey.This was stated by the health director while reviewing the progress of the programme at a meeting here on Saturday.The director told the meeting that three lakh pregnant women have been identified who would be provided medical health care and education on safe delivery.
Camp
PATIALA: State Bank of Patiala, Chalela branch under its social banking scheme, organised a farmers camp. Hakam Singh, advocate and sarpanch of the village, was the chief guest. U.S. Atish, manager of the bank listed the various schemes offered to farmers. A medical check-up camp was also organised at the government high school for school children, where a team of specialists examined the students.
Grievance
PATIALA: The students of fourth semester civil from the local Thapar Polytechnic, have alleged that more than 25 per cent of the question paper of Surveying-1, was out-of-syllabus. In a representation to the deputy controller, Punjab State Board of Technical Education and Industrial Training, the examinees have alleged that these questions had no reference to their prescribed syllabus and they had no alternative but to refrain from attempting them. This they said, would affect their pass percentage.The students have urged the deputy controller to review these questions and compensate them by granting grace marks.
New provisions
PHAGWARA: The Northern Railway has provided walkie-talkie sets to drivers and guards of all mail and express trains to improve smooth running of the trains.According to railway sources, train drivers and guards would now be able to have direct link with each other and could decide on action during an unprecedented situation. This step would also strengthen the railway security system.
Crime
SOLAN: Two priceless Ashatdhatu idols of Lord Ganesha were allegedly stolen from Narsingh temple, situated on Palace Road area of the town here last night. Additional Superintendent of Police K. K. Indoria told ENS that idols were stolen between 11.30 p.m. and 4.30 a.m. He said that an iron bar used in breaking open the lock of the main gate of the temple had been recovered from the spot. The ASP said that the priest of the temple informed the police soon after discovering the theft.
DHARAMSALA: The gazette of the matric result of the Himachal Pradesh School Education Board was allegedly circulated in Una with the connivance of some board employees on Saturday, many hours before it was actually made public put up for sale. According to sources, the said gazette was prepared at the behest of a board insider in Dharamsala and was taken to Una to benefit a 8220;specific business group8221;. A similar case was detected in Una, a few years ago too. Board Secretary R. S. Negi said he has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
HOSHAIRPUR: THE body of a Khemkaran trader was today found hanging in a local hotel room, police sources said. The deceased has been identified as Tilak Raj 38 on the basis of the visiting card found with him, sources added. A cash amount of Rs 13,000 was also found in the attache case of the trader, found in the room which was locked from inside. The incident was noticed when a waiter of the hotel, located near the city bus stand, knocked at the room for giving a cup of tea this morning. When the hotel staff got no response from inside, they requisitioned the police who broke open the door and found the trader hanging with a rope from the ceiling fan. The body was returned to his relatives after post mortem.
Mishaps
KULLU: A local youth was killed in a road mishap at Rahala fall, 27 km from Manali on the Manali-Leh road, when a tractor trolley being driven by him skidded off the road and fell into a gorge. The deceased has been identified as Jogi Ram, a resident of village Solang near Solang Nallah.
CHAMBA: A vehicle of the Health Department was involved in an accident at Dalhousie at 4.45 pm on Friday, in which the driver, Ramesh Kumar, died on the spot, while five others were seriously injured. The injured were admitted to the Civil Hospital, Dalhousie.
