MUMBAI, April 21: Central YMCA were down 59-63 and their spirits were flagging. That was until Rajnikant Acharya drained two three pointers and revived their interest in the semi-final league match of the Colgate-sponsored Savio Open Junior Basketball tournament at the Don Bosco School courts today.

Central YMCA went on to win 69-66 against Bombay YMCA and gained a spot in the final against Fr Agnel, who won 66-50 against Bhanu Talim.

Rajnikant Acharya’s brilliant shooting was matched by Placid Fernandes’s good close range shooting as he sunk two baskets from close range to bail out Central.

The Fr Agnel-Bhanu Talim tie was one-sided. Fr Agnel had too many steals and fast breaks to upset the rhythm of Bhanu Talim.

The girls final, between Our Lady of fatima and Agradneya Vyayamshala will be held tomorrow. In the final league match, Fatima trounced 40-4 with AVM’s poor shooting remaining their primary cause of concern. AVM did all their scoring in the second-half.
