MUMBAI, April 22: It was almost as Central YMCA had the licence to shoot. And they missed the target by miles.

It was one of Central YMCA’s undoing as they lost tamely to Fr Agnel (59-50) in the boys final of the Colgate-sponsored Savio Open Junior Basketball tournament at the Don Bosco School, Matunga here today.

And they paid for their pathetic 21.4 percent shooting conversions throughout the match. It was just 20 % in the first half and improved marginally in the second.

And the biggest culprit in the Central YMCA team was Rajnikant Acharya who attempted 33 shots and converted just eight of those four of those were three-pointers. Only for a brief while did they look like upsetting the applecart of Fr Agnel when they were down 22-28 and took the lead at 31-30.

They scored from five baskets from eight attempts with Rajnikant leading the way with a three-pointer. But going by the form of the match, it was too good for Central to last.

What Rajnikant was attempting, KB Binoy of Fr Agnel did forhis team, scoring a game-high of 22 points with Dheeraj M contributing with offensive rebounding and 10 points.

Our Lady of Fatima won the girls title by beating Agredneya Vyayamshala, Dombivli 58-38 in the final. It was a between display from AVM who had lost 4-40 in the final semi-final league to the same team.
