PATNA, MARCH 28: Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi tonight described the Centre8217;s special economic package of Rs 600 cr for the state as a mere eyewash.
She told newspersons here that though the Centre made the announcement with great fanfare yesterday, in reality it had not shown any special favour to the state. She said the Centre had only decided to send 50 companies of Central para-military force and four companies of rapid action force to tackle the law and order situation.
She said the Centre had decided only to meet 50 cent of the total expenditure on the central police force to be deployed in the extremist-affected areas.
Rashtriya Janata Dal president Laloo Prasad Yadav said the Centre was misleading the people of Bihar by claiming that it had provided special package for the state. In fact, it was the state8217;s money being given in a new pack.
He said the Centre met all the expenditure on tackling extremism in Jammu and Kashmir and the north eastern states, but it only decided to partiallyoffset the expenditure for Bihar.
State chief secretary VS Dubey, who was also present during the briefing, said the Gram Raksha Dal in the extremist affected areas would be strengthened and 10,000 jawans recruited in district police.
He said it had also been decided to constitute three battalions of Bihar armed police and one battalion of railway police force. He said the border security force and the central reserve police force had assured the state government to train the state police force.
