
MUMBAI, MARCH 22: Central Bank of India were off to a flying start when they steam-rolled past State Bank of India 9-0 in their opening encounter of the Punjab National Bank-sponsored BHA Senior Division hockey league at the Khalsa College ground, Matunga, today.
The highlight of the match was five goals, including a hat-trick, by promising striker Ashley Piedade.
State Bank, comprising mostly veteran players, did well to contain their opponents goalless for the first 20 minutes. Thereafter, SBI ran out of steam and were battered badly.
CBI began cautiously and then struck in quick succession. In the span of 15 minutes, they took a winning 4-0 lead before the half-time.
Central Bank players were high spirits by now and pumped in five more goals in the one-sided second session.
The margin of victory would have been much bigger for CBI but they wasted several scoring opportunities, including a stroke8217; which was muffed by Vivek D8217;Souza.
Gilbert Buthello, Rommel Pereira, Martinez Fernandes and VivekD8217;Souza also added a goal each for the Central Bank team.
There will be no matches at this venue tomorrow.
Agrawal bows out
Subhash Agrawal 90 bowed out of the AR Dias Memorial Open Break billiards tournament, sponsored by ATM Shipping, when he went down narrowly to R Gopalan 14 27-21 in the second-round at the Catholic Gymkhana today.

Cricket coaching
A cricket coaching camp on behalf of the Shah Foundation will be held at Shivaji Park on the Central Railway Institute ground between 3.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. The camp commences on April 4.
