Non-teaching staff had approached Women Development Cell over the issue on September 25

The special committee formed on September 28 to look into the complaints by the women non-teaching staff of Gujarat University against Vice-Chancellor (V-C) Parimal Trivedi, over the installation of CCTV cameras in the women’s toilets, met all the complainants on Friday.

The three-member special committee of Sudhir Nanavati, Rajshree Bhatt and Mukul Shah listened to all the complaints for more than three hours in the evening and decided to meet again on Sunday afternoon.

According to sources, discussions on other matters like promotion of the senior staff members, revocation of two suspension orders to two non-teaching staff members and transfer of 10 other non-teaching staff members also took place.

The special committee, however, refused to give details of the talk between them and the complainants.

On September 25, the women non-teaching staff had given a written complaint to the Women Development Cell (WDC) of the GU over the CCTV issue. The special committee was formed on September 28 at the previous Executive Council (EC) meeting.

Meanwhile, the members of the Gujarat State Youth Congress and the National Students Union of India (Gujarat state) walked into the office of the V-C and gheraoed him. They also asked for the resignation of the V-C.

Mihir Shah, president, Gujarat State Youth Congress and Indervijaysinh Gohil, president, National Students Union of India (Gujarat) called for a stop on discussing GUJCOC. They also asked Trivedi why GUJCOC was discussed at the last EC meeting on September 28, as it was not on the agenda list.

They said the V-C wanted to earn the favour of the ruling BJP for securing a second term at the office. They called for withdrawing GUJCOC from the agenda within 72 hours, pending which they will start a demonstration.
