The Special staff of West District has busted a gang of carjackers and solved over 50 cases of robbery, snatching and vehicle theft across the Capital. Police said seven members of the gang have been arrested.

The Special staff of West District has busted a gang of carjackers and solved over 50 cases of robbery, snatching and vehicle theft across the Capital. Police said seven members of the gang have been arrested.

Three of the accused, Rahul, Ratan and Vijay, had been released from jail for their involvement in over 80 cases of murder, robbery, snatching, theft of motor vehicles. Police received information that the trio had formed a new gang specialising in carjacking.

On December 18, the gang was involved in a car-jacking case in Vikaspuri. It allegedly waylaid an I-10 Hyundai car and robbed the car and valuables in it.

Police arrested the accused Rahul, Ratan, Junaid, Vijay and Ravi from Singhu border on Friday in the robbed I-10 car with two countrymade pistols, four live cartridges, two knives, a robbed Rolex watch and gold items.

Upon interrogation, the other members of the gang Raghubir and Sanjay were arrested from Kurukshetra, Haryana, with a stolen Skoda car and a Pulsar motorcycle. Police officers said that during interrogation, Rahul disclosed that he had met Ratan and Vijay in Tihar Jail, where they decided to work together after they were released.

8220;Rahul came out of jail and started committing motorcycle thefts. He used the money to pay the advocate8217;s fees for Ratan and Vijay, and managed to get them out on bail. The trio then expanded their gang with known criminals, Junaid, Sanjay and Ravi. The gang stole vehicles from Delhi and NCR area. They were active between 9 pm and 4 am,8221; DCP West Sharad Aggarwal said. The gang operated on the Ring Road and the Outer Ring Road.
