PUNE, APRIL 16: Four women were injured when a car knocked them down on the Chandrashekhar Agashe Road near the Omkareshwar temple on Saturday evening.

Alka Nikam, Suman Nikam, Shalan Karanjawane and Kashibai Mane were returning home after offering a pooja at the Omkareshwar temple when the mishap happened.

Police said Umesh Sakharam Shinde (25) of Budhwar Peth was driving a friend’s Maruti car towards Shaniwar Peth police chowki from Sneha Sadan side at the time of the mishap.

The car dashed the traffic island after knocking down the four women and came to a halt. Shinde was thrashed up by enraged passers-by and later handed over to the Vishrambaug police. Police said later a medical examination of Shinde revealed that he was driving in an inebriated condition.
