Plight of the Pak scribes

The Pakistani journalists at the Australia vs Zimbabwe game are a desolate lot. They are seen walking around as if the world has crashed around them. One, usually in high spirits from early morning, is asking for the head of the entire team. He wants the whole lot to be arrested on betting charges. Among the questions that are being flung is: 8220;How can a living legend Waqar Younis be dropped from this team?8221;

Lord8217;s View

The Lord8217;s press box, made specifically for the World Cup is an absolute stunner. The old press box is over mid-wicket and still in use, but this one is right over the sight screen and resembles a spaceship one newspaper claimed it resembled the British Prime Ninister8217;s wife8217;s lips.

Situated opposite the pavilion, the NatWest Media Centre, as it called, houses the print media on the first tier and the television and radio on the upper tier. The front wall is all glass. Superbly designed tables, chairs and viewing area make this one of bestpress boxes in England. The view, however, cannot match Headingley8217;s.

Obviously in some centres the ECB has organised things better, but ducked out in other places. Indian manager Brijesh Patel says they are slowly changing. 8220;From the last time I came here as manager of the junior team 1996 to now there have been a number of changes in the venues, pavilion, dressing room and club house. There is tremendous resistance to any change here as everybody talks of tradition. Give them a little more time and they will come around and organise things much better,8221; he says.

Point is, will cricket be around till then in England?
