Two Punjabi flicks and a double dose of the phoren formula
Seems like they8217;ve exhausted the Canadian territory, for in his next production, producer-director Manmohan Singh has moved his base camp to the Great Britain and aptly christened it, 8216;Munde UK De8217;. Carrying on with the tried and tested phoren formula, the veteran is back with his favourite boy Jimmy Sheirgill, Neeru Bajwa and singer Amarinder Gill who will be making his debut in the film. 8220;It8217;s set against the backdrop of a very hip-hop English lifestyle and revolves around the theme of generation gap and culture clash,8221; tells Singh who has written, directed and produced the film. Hmm, now where have we heard that story before! Anyways, the crew is in town for the shoot and in we hear that there8217;s a great chemistry between Jimmy and Amarinder. And we thought it8217;s between the hero and heroine! Jokes apart, Jimmy and Gill are playing these two UK born characters who make a visit to Punjab and get acquainted with their homeland. A joint venture of Mukut Wala and Punj-Aab Movies International, 8216;Munde UK De8217; also features Deep Dhillon, Arun Bali, Akshita, Gurpreet Ghuggi and Rana Ranabir. 8220;Babloo Kumar and Sukhshinder Shinda have given the music while Amarinder along with Labh Janjua, Sardool Sikander and Sudesh Kumari have given the playback,8221; says Singh. 8220;It8217;s Manmohan Singh8217;s vision as a director that8217;s got me into movies and I hope it will be a great take off as the movie promises entertainment, comedy and a social message,8221; chips in Gill.
Meanwhile, in the other part of the town, director Rajan Lyallppuri talked about his venture, 8216;Wattanaan Ton Door8217;. This one8217;s real far off the Punjabi NRI map for it8217;s set in Germany and has all the makings of a punch drunk drama 8211; needy family back home, unemployment, job search abroad, contractual marriage for visa, wicked agents, property crisis et al. It stars Avinash Wadhawan, Gursewak Mann, Vivek Shauq, Upasana Singh, Arun Bakshi, Deep Dhillon, Raza Murad, Nirmal Pandey and Tinaa Ghaai. Which brings us to a little chitchat with Tinaa 8211; singer, dancer, model and actor. 8220;My family migrated to Canada long time back, and recently I lost my father there and couldn8217;t go, so I know what the pains of separation and staying in a foreign country is,8221; Tinaa states her reason for saying yes to the film. With about 40-45 films and and equal number of TV serials, a couple of albums in almost every Indian language, Tinaa says what works for her is a package deal. 8220;Like in this film, I get to sing and act,8221; she, however, makes it a point to take one thing at a time. 8220;I8217;m a highly organised person,8221; she says. When you8217;re handling a glamourous existence along with a profession which deals with building contracts and doing interiors, you have to have things in order! 8220;I cannot sit still, I have to work,8221; she believes that if you have a dream, then go for it. 8220;Compromise, casting couch8230;everything8217;s nonsense. It8217;s completely your choice. Just focus, do your work and move on,8221; says this crooning queen.
