Chandigarh, March 19: A scooterist was crushed under a bus of the PEPSU Roadways Transport Corporation PRTC around 9.10 a.m. at the Sectors 20-21-33-34 roundabout today.

The deceased, 49-year-old Tank Raj, was employed as a record-keeper with Markfed and was a resident of Peepliwala in Manimajra. The bus was on its way to Patiala. Police sources said the scooterist was riding on the road separating Sectors 20 and 21. As the scooter reached the roundabout, the bus travelling at a rather high speed tried to overtake the scooter and knocked it down. The scooterist8217;s head was smashed along with the helmet as the bus ran over it. The scooterist was killed on the spot. Bus driver Karamjeet tried to flee the spot but the traffic police personnel deployed nearby chased the bus and caught hold of the driver, police sources said. He has been held for causing death by rash and negligent driving. Because of the rush hours, traffic was held up on the road for around an hour after the accident till the police removed the body from the site after completing the formalities.
