Bus fare hike from Monday

The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited PMPML8217;s new increased bus fares will come into effect from next Monday after the Regional Transport Authority passed an order on Thursday.

With this, the company is expected to benefit by at least Rs 2 crore each month because of this fee hike, said PMPML spokesperson D A Pardeshi.

While the minimum fare 8212; Rs 3 for the first two km 8212; has not been increased, customers will have to pay an additional Re 1 for every additional two km. Except the rate of student pass, rates of all other passes have been increased.

8220;The daily pass, within PMC limits, will be Rs 50 per day. The rate of senior citizens pass has been increased from Rs 12 to Rs 20. Weekly pass rate has been increased from Rs 180 to Rs 220 while monthly pass will become Rs 750 from Rs 600,8221; Pardeshi said.

The rate of identity card has increased from Rs 10 to Rs 15 per card while the rate of student pass application form will be Rs 2.

Meanwhile, various commuter organisations have opposed the hike. According to a press release from PMP Pravasi Sangh which was signed by eleven activists, 8220;The reason cited for the hike is increase in diesel fare. But the company will benefit by over Rs 50 crore per year. This works out to Rs 75 per km per passenger.8221;
