Union Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi has held Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee responsible for the Singur stalemate.
8220;The chief minister is singularly responsible for the Singur impasse. Before acquiring the land, he had not discussed it even within the Left Front,8221; said Dasmunsi. He was speaking at a convention of the party8217;s south Kolkata unit on Saturday.
He said that Bhattacharjee had misled the Singur farmers, as the government made a promise to return maximum land from the project area to the affected farmers, knowing well that it would not be possible.
8220;How can ancillary units be saved if land was given from the project site? The chief minister had not done adequate homework in preparing the rehabilitation package before signing an agreement with the Trinamool,8221; said Dasmunsi.
He accused the CPM of neglecting farmers in areas that were not under its stronghold. 8220;The CPM8217;s farmers8217; wing, the Paschimbanga Krishak Sabha, has remained silent over the plight of Singur farmers,8221; he said.
