BEIJING, JUNE 23: British Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon is scheduled to visit China next week as part of Britain’s policy of engaging the Communist nation in an array of bilateral, regional and global security issues.

Hoon will arrive in Beijing next Monday, where he will meet his Chinese counterpart, General Chi Haotian, the official Xinhua News Agency reported on Friday.

"Defence cooperation with China forms an important part of Britain’s overall policy of engagement with the Chinese on a wide range of issues," Xinhua quoted a statement issued by the British defence ministry as saying.

Together with Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan, Hoon will open a UK-China joint peacekeeping seminar in Beijing.
