Fashion designer Rahul Khanna on why Giorgio Armani spells excellence
Whenever I think of suits for men, Armani is the only name that comes to my mind. It8217;s a brand that to me is synonymous with class and style. As a student, I would dream of a day when I would be able to afford an Armani suit. In an Armani collection last year, the designer had male models walking the ramp in a bare torso with a waist jacket and a deconstructed shirt-like jacket. Even though the look doesn8217;t sound very fashionable, when you see it you realise how something so simple can be made to look classy. The latest collection was very relaxed, with breezy t-shirts, wide legged pants and fitted trousers. I also liked the tapered pants and single breasted suits.

Another thing I admire about the brand is that they are against using anorexic models. In fact, Giorgio Armani was one of the first people to ban the use of any model whose BMI was lower than 18 in his shows. Armani shows do not have skinny 8212; anorexic or bulimic 8212; models. There is one thing that upsets me, though. Armani had promised to never use fur in their collection. However, their 2008 collection had used rabbit fur for baby clothes.

I don8217;t think it8217;s possible for a designer to be inspired by another designer. It8217;s a creative job and what we do is solely our imagination and creation. However, the cuts and style of Armani suits is very close to what we design. It8217;s simple, yet fashionable. I don8217;t remember a single collection by Armani which may have got bad reviews by fashion journalists. When you go to see an Armani show, you know it will be excellent even before it begins. Armani is a revolutionary designer label and in my opinion, no other designer can match up to it.
