8226; My family is from West Punjab and I have always been curious about the culture that had almost been destroyed by Partition 8216;Balle-balle at Mohali8217;, IE, March 8. Cultures paid the price to create the two nation states as we know them. Hopefully, with these initiatives, people will still be able to salvage their identities. I recall my only effort at getting a business visa for a day-trip to Karachi. After being informed that it would take three months, I finally went to Singapore and trained an American to do my job! I8217;m amazed at how far we8217;ve come since then!

8226; C. Raja Mohan presents a very interesting scenario of cooperation between the Pakistan Punjab and Indian Punjab, so tragically divided by the British. The meetings between the two CMs have created warm relations between the two Punjabs. Cooperation in every field can wrought a miracle in India-Pakistan relations. One can only hope that East Punjab clears up the one thing that affects subcontinental relations. Why is West Punjab a terrorist recruiting base that is set up to attack India over Kashmir? It8217;s possible the two CMs can work out a solution to end this as well. Realisation has dawned on both sides that, after all, we have a common blood and heritage. Like the Jews and Palestinians, after more than half a century of savage conflict, can we hope for peace?

8226; It is time that we give up using cricket to galvanise our sagging relations with our neighbour. Remember how the PCB made a needless attempt to invite the Dalai Lama to attend the match? Why should our authorities invite the general? Instead it would do more good if 10,000 more of ordinary Pakistanis come to our country to watch the matches and see our country with their own eyes and not through the coloured lenses of their generals and mullahs 8216;Invite the general8217;, IE, March 8.

8226; India-Pak cricket matches are like wars. As a kid, I remember mullahs in Vadodara, Ahmedabad and Surat celebrating with fire crackers for Pakistan. No action was taken against them. I left India because I was too small to change it, but this great 8220;thaw8221; in Indo-Pak relations is like a joke.

A way out
8226; Why is Laloo 8216;sulking8217; IE, March 8? The Bihar governor should be congratulated for not succumbing to the same pressure as the Jharkhand governor did. However, the imposition of President8217;s Rule in Bihar is also unfortunate as it means that the entire money spent on the elections has gone waste and Bihar8217;s citizens have no representation in the government which rules them now. It8217;s high time that political parties realise that the multi-party system is not in the interest of anyone and every party 8212; at the Centre and in the states 8212; need to align with one or the other of the two coalitions: NDA or UPA.

Recall Nehru
8226; As you note, the Congress Party has a shocking record of politicising the office of governor. Would not the Congress like to recall Jawaharlal Nehru8217;s assurances to the Constituent Assembly when it was debating the appointment of governors, that qualities and character will decide such appointments?
