Bangalore, June 24: Karnataka8217;s tryst with luck ended as Bombay entered the semi-finals of the Tatas 30th Junior National hockey championship, eliminating the hosts 8-6 in a tie-breaker here today.

The tie-breaker was forced after the teams were tied three-all at the end of regulation time and a 15-minute extra time of the second quarter-final which went to the wire.

Robindro Singh, Vijay Alphonso, Sunil Singh, Stanley Fernandes and Asad Khan were on target for Bombay, while Chandrashekar Xalxo, Biknu Munda and skipper Arjun Halappa found the mark for Karnataka.

The Bombay bench jumped in joy when Asad Khan8217;s push entered the Karnataka goal after Anup Anthony8217;s try was padded away by Bombay goalkeeper Karan Bhasin.

Bombay will now take on Punjab amp; Sind Bank, who edged out Punjab via Ajitpal Singh8217;s penalty corner conversion.

Bombay showed the initial aggression. In the 19th minute came the side8217;s second penalty corner which saw them surge ahead through Robindro8217;s conversion.

Karnataka equalised inthe 48th minute as Arjun Halappa converted the side8217;s fourth penalty corner. At this point, the game turned an interesting note as the hosts surged ahead three minutes later with Anup Anthony pushing home Bipin Fernandez8217;s cross from the left.

The bane of the Karnataka defence which crumbles against sustained moves was brought forth yet again. Bombay drew level through Stanley Fernandes8217; penalty corner conversion in the 53rd minute.

Karnataka shot back through PM Mandanna who tapped in Bipin8217;s hit-in from the left in the 60th minute only to see Bombay restore parity three minutes later through Asad Khan.

Parminder stabbed: In contrast, the first quarterfinal between Punjab amp; Sind Bank was played on a slow pace. PSB were playing without skipper Parminder Singh, who had seven stitches on his right thigh after he was stabbed by some miscreants near their camp in the city. The incident occurred after their crucial match against Orissa on Monday.
