NOVEMBER 14: A bomb hoax brought the Delhi bound August Kranti to a screeching halt at the Borivali station this evening. The passengers had a long wait at the station while the bomb and dog squads inspected each bogey of the train, followed by a search through all the baggage before giving the green signal. The train finally chugged out of the station at 9.30 pm, with no bomb on board.

The August Kranti left the Mumbai Central station at 5.40 pm Barely half-an-hour after the train had pulled out of the station, the telephone rang at the Railway Protection Force control room. The anonymous caller informed the control room that there was a bomb on the Delhi bound train.

The control room in turn called the GRP, who alerted all the agencies involved and the train was stopped at the Borivali station. The bomb squad, the dog squad and the railway police were on standby on the platform.

The two squads took over the train as anxious passengers waited on the platform. Going through the train meticulously, thesquads had just managed to search through six bogies within the first half hour. The remaining compartments took them another hour, after which passenger baggage was rummaged through.

The search for the bomb finally ended around 9 pm, after which the passengers were allowed to gather their belongings and board the train again. The final green signal was given at 9.30 pm.
