
MUMBAI, May 20: The new-look Bank of India easily got past Rashtryia Chemicals and Fertilizers 2-0 in a Gulf Oil Super League football match at the Cooperage today.
New recruit Sanjay Hazare put BoI ahead in the 27th minute with a right foot shot. Hazare was set up by the other new enlistee ME Satish.
Another new recruit, Basir Hussain, sealed the victory for BoI in the 84th minute with a flying header off a cross from Chandrakant Poojary. Hussain dived to the front to connect the cross giving no chance to Subrato Dasgupta, RCF8217;s new goalkeeper.
Both teams had some new players on their ranks. The players who have joined BoI are Sanjiv Verma, RN Mitra both goalkeepers, Prakash Mehra, Chandan Harizan defence, MK Karmughilan, SC Thakur, Sanjay Hazare mid-field, ME Satish, Basir Hussain, Bidyut Hansda forwards. RCF have the services of Jitendra Prasad goalkeeper, Pahari Singh mid-field, Pratap Tirkey, Abhishek Yadav both forwards.
RCF started well but then heat got better off them. They hadtwo chances in the span of the first 15 minutes but striker Zahid Raza and Yadav failed to capitalise on them.
RCF8217;s striker Yadav had a on-the-run shot on a Tirkey forward pass but it sailed over the bar. Defender Balian Singh also tried a 40-yard powerful shot which missed the target narrowly. Yadav, again, was in the thick of action in the second-half when his header off a cross from Pahari Singh found the woodwork.
RCF would have conceded another just after the breather when RCF custodian Dasgupta tried to dribble past Pooojary on a back pass. Poojary8217;s swirling shot and came back into play after hitting the pole.
WIFA DECISION: The WIFA Super Division committee has decided to conduct all Super Division matches in the second session of the day.
Secretary SN Devdas, coach Bank of India, told The Indian Express that due to excessive heat in the afternoon, the matches had been rescheduled to evening.
