
AMBALA, July 15: Twelve-year-old Tinku drowned in a choked seasonal nullah in Durgiana Colony of Dalipgarh village near here on Monday. The boy had been missing since Monday morning, but the body was found around 3 p.m. by the colony residents. The dead body was found entangled in the wild growth in the nullah channel.
The agitated residents led by Mahila Kalyan Samiti president Anita Devi and president of the Mahila Kalyan Samiti and member of Dalipgarh panchayat Sham Lal Sood, alleged that the village panchayat had urged SDO S.S. Chadha to get the bushes and weeds growing in the nullah cleared before the onset of the monsoons. They alleged that the officials did not pay any heed to their appeals.
In a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner and the Chief Minister, they have demanded inquiry into the reasons for the flooding of the nullah and due compensation to the bereaved family.
Meanwhile, a member of the District Public Relations and Grievances committee said the water had got accumulated in under the wild growth for want of proper drainage. Anil Vij, the legislator from Ambala cantonment, also expressed dissatisfaction over the inadequate flood control measures taken by the department before the onset of the monsoons.
Haryana Lok Dal Rashtriya Youth president Jasbir Malaur, Ambala district, in a press statement has criticised the functioning of the department.
