More than a year after the BJP lost power in Jharkhand, party President Rajnath Singh has started showing interest in the state8217;s affairs. Singh is scheduled to arrive in Jharkhand on a two-day visit on Thursday and will address the concluding session of the two-day state executive meet on Friday. State party top brass are camping in Hazaribagh for the meet.
However, the highlight of Singh8217;s visit will be his meeting with former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi in his native Kodaibank village in Giridih, where Marandi8217;s son was killed in a Naxal attack on Friday. Singh calling on Marandi is being viewed as an attempt to woo the former CM, who had quit the BJP to float his own Jharkhand Vikas Dal, back into the party.
Partymen don8217;t deny that there is a move to woo back Marandi. 8220;In politics nothing is impossible,8221; said BJP state President P N Singh.
The meeting also gains significance in the wake of a possibility of a mid-term poll. Marandi, who had till recently maintained that he would 8220;prefer to consume poison8221; than going back to the BJP, was not available for comment. 8220;After the death of his son, there8217;s sympathy for him across the state. If he decides to return to the BJP, we will sweep the polls,8221; said a JVP worker on condition of anonymity.
After meeting Marandi, Singh will address the concluding session of the state executive meeting. 8220;We have invited all members of the executive committee for the meeting in Hazaribagh,8221; said Rakesh Kumar, a district leader.
The meeting is taking place at a time when Jharkhand is witnessing unprecedented crime, Naxalite violence. The BJP will take the opportunity to attack the UPA Government in state led by Independent MLA Madhu Koda.
