BJP won’t act against Zadaphia

BJP rebel MLAs in Gujarat won another round on Friday when the state unit decided not to take action against Gordhan Zadaphia, the MLA from Rakhial, who was issued a show-cause notice for refusing to take oath during the swearing-in ceremony on August 1.

A statement by BJP state president Vajubhai Vala said he was satisfied with Zadaphia’s reply. ‘‘The matter rests here,’’ Vala said.

Zadaphia is learnt to have replied that the refusal to take up a ministerial berth was a ‘‘personal decision’’, as he had grievances against

the government. The state BJP reportedly decided against any disciplinary action as it feared a backlash from the rebel MLAs, as well as the VHP.
