RAJKOT, Dec 5: State BJP president Rajendrasinh Rana criticised the Congress leadership for making the Narmada dam a political issue by supporting NJA leader Sharad Joshi. Rana was speaking at the State Executive meeting of the BJP being held in Sasan Gir to decide on the strategy for the forthcoming Nagarpalika elections.

Rana said all political parties in the State had the same stand on the Narmada issue. 8220;The case is presently going on in Supreme Court and decisions have been in favour of Gujarat till now. At such a time, there was no need to hold a kar seva,8221; he added.

The Vijay Nirdhar Bethak8217; is being held under the chairmanship of BJP national president Kushabhau Thakre. Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel, 22 State ministers and three Union ministers were present in the meeting.

The meeting also adopted a resolution on Narmada Yojna, which stated that Joshi and his group had become a tool in the hands of anti-Narmada groups and their action was aimed at endangering the interests of the State.

The meeting deliberated on issues such as giving the gramsabha a greater role, to make assistance to village-level schemes simpler, employment opportunities for people living below the poverty line, free passes for sarpanchs to travel from their villages to the district head, construction of more houses under the Sardar Housing Scheme.

A final decision on the above issues will be taken tomorrow.
