ROHTAK, April 26: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s alliance with the Haryana Vikas Party (HVP) in the state will last its full term, president of the Haryana unit of the BJP Om Parkash Grover said today.
The party had not taken any decision so far to withdraw support to the Bansi Lal government, he said, while addressing a press conference here today.
However, Grover admitted that the BJP had suffered heavily in the recent Lok Sabha polls due to resentment amongst people against the state government because of the non-implementation of several poll promises. He agreed that poll promises merely aimed at wooing the voters were tantamount to cheating.
The district units of the BJP would submit their report to the committee looking into the causes of the party’s poor performance, Grover said.
When asked what he felt were the reasons behind the poor performance of the party, Grover said the voters had not been able to rise above regional issues. The voters, specially farmers in southern Haryana and traders in general, were not happy with the state government.
Regarding the prohibition policy, the president admitted that the government had failed to plug in the loopholes in the scheme.
A delegation consisting of Ramesh Joshi, former President of Haryana BJP unit, Ganeshi Lal, Minister of Food and Supplies, Kamla Verma, Minister of Local Bodies, Ram Bilas Sharma, Minister of Education, and Kapoor Chand Vaid, MLA, met Chief Minister Bansi Lal yesterday and urged him to introduce “slab” system in power sector in southern Haryana and abolish octroi, he said.
Grover hoped that the water dispute between the neighbouring states would be sorted out amicably.
After taking over as president, Grover said his top-most priority would be to strengthen the organisation.
Regarding the Chander Bhatia episode, he said he had asked Bhatia not to air his grievances publicly. Grover would be going to Faridabad shortly after his visit to Gandhinagar.
He said the newly appointed office-bearers would meet here on April 29 to take stock of the political situation.
Meanwhile, a press release said that Grover had nominated the following office-bearers to the state unit:
