A day after the current Winter Session of Parliament ends, BJP central office-bearers will meet here on December 25 to plan measures to tone up the party for the next Lok Sabha polls.

Deputy PM L.K. Advani will also join the meeting, which comes ahead of the chintan baithak, planned for January.

Sources disclosed the office-bearers will take stock of the political scene and take a look at alignments across the country. Alongside, they will review the Assembly polls, identify the weak and strong points that emerged during campaigning and initiate remedial measures. They may also list some dos and don8217;ts for party governments in states. On paper, the agenda will be organisational polls of the party.

BJP chief M. Venkaiah Naidu has already stated that the coming days may see some new political alignments and re-alignments. The BJP8217;s immediate worry is UP, which has to be handled first to improve party prospects in the forthcoming LS polls. A mere revamp of the state unit may not be adequate. Though it is premature to say so, a tie-up between the BJP and Samajwadi Party is possible, provided they sort out the Ayodhya issue.

Things are easier for the party in Bihar, as there is no third force which can cut into the anti-Laloo Yadav vote, and the Samata-JDU combine is consolidating its ranks. Sources indicated that the combine may rope in LJP leader Ram Vilas Paswan, cashing in on his isolation in the state.

With regard to West Bengal, the irritant in the BJP-Trinamool ties would soon disappear with the PM likely to allot a good portfolio to Mamata Banerjee. Although, BJP-DMK ties have been through a bad patch, both may bury the hatchet now.
