VADODARA, July 27: Even as the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party8217;s Co-ordination Committee in the Vadodara Municipal Corporation VMC has been reconstituted, it has apparently decided to stick to policy matters rather than interfere in routine day-to-day issues.
Committee Chairman K K Shah told Express Newsline on Monday that the Committee would take up only policy matters for discussions. A civic office-bearer said that issues including legalisation of unauthorised water and drainage connections, dividing the city into zones would be taken up for discussion during the Thursday meetings. The changes were incorporated following discontent among some Standing Committee members, who felt that the Co-ordination Committee was acting as the final authority and deciding on the items on the agenda of the Standing Committee.
Shah, however, denied this, saying once policy matters were discussed, the committee members would discuss merits and demerits of the items on the agenda with the Standing Committee members.
The reconstituted committee comprises Shah, Mayor Bharti Vyas, Deputy Mayor Dinesh Chokshi, Standing Committee chairman N V Patel, party leader in the VMC Umakant Joshi, whip Sadanand Desai, former party leader Magan Desai, former mayors Shabdsharan Brahmbhatt and Ratilal Desai and, former Deputy Mayor Bhupendra Patel.
Former Standing Committee chairmen have made way for city party organisation secretary Rai and party in-charge for Vadodara Chunibhai Baraiya.
Unlike last year, the party will not appoint special committees to advise various civic committee chairmen and members on civic issues. If need be, the committee will discuss the issues, Shah added.
Last year, chairmen and chairpersons of the VMC8217;s official committees had opposed appointment of special committees saying they did not want outsiders to dictate terms and were capable of handling the affairs themselves.
