After the Opposition Congress tried to corner the BJP for opposing the Bus Rapid Transit System BRTS in Delhi, the ruling party has agreed to get some designs modified for the project in Ahmedabad.

Congress leader Surendra Baxi and others pointed out that the junction on the BRT route at Anjali in Vasna was too big to ensure smooth traffic. Standing committee chairman Asit Vora readily agreed to have this and three other junctions, which he himself was sceptical about, modified. Vora also admitted that traffic on the Satellite Road was becoming a major headache even before the BRT project was started.

The BJP had to face the allegation of discriminating against the Congress-represented wards in the city when the general board met here on Wednesday.

Liyaqat Ghori8217;s allegation that the administration was discriminating against Congress-represented wards had the BJP members on their toes, who strongly denied the charge. They said that one proposal was returned for road resurfacing, as only one tender was submitted for that work.

While Baxi demanded an inquiry into the issuance of recovery notices before delivery of tax bills in the new west zone areas, Krishna Thakar sought urgent action against Omkar Process House in the Naroda area for polluting water and air. She praised Chief Minister Narendra Modi for initiating action in this regard.

Baxi also told officials to get a technical survey done of 8220;underground properties8221; and tax their owners accordingly. He said inaction on this score was causing a huge loss to the AMC coffers.

The ward committee formed under the JNNURM directive came in focus for their inefficacy with the Congress alleging that officials were ignoring their recommendations. The Opposition said that at least 60 per cent work be done under their instructions. Also, 8216;negligence8217; at L G Hospital leading to death of a patient and another patient having to leave for the lack of medical attention drew Opposition8217;s flak.
