Dial I-T for tax queries

MUMBAI: THE Income-Tax department has installed a computerised helpline service for salaried employees after finding that despite having a fixed income they find it difficult to compute their taxable income and file their returns. People can clarify their doubts by calling the number 209 4444 from a fax machine and the helpline will fax material on various aspects of taxation of income. The computerised voice response will guide the caller to get information on a desired subject. The caller can either hear the subject-list menu or receive it by fax. The caller has to then identify the subject to which his query relates by punching in the subject code two subjects can be choses on one call. The facility was inaugurated by CBDT chairman Ravi Kant in Mumbai recently.

Agro Dutch to expand capacity

MUMBAI: PUNJAB-based Agro Dutch Foods, the exporter of mushrooms has finalised plans to raise capacity by 5,000 tonnes every year to take total capacity to 30,000tonnes. The total cost of Rs 7 crore will be funded through internal accruals. The expansion will make the company a significant player in the world market. The company set up a 100 per cent export-oriented unit in joint sector with Punjab Agro Industries Corporation in 1994 for the manufacture and export of canned white button mushrooms with an installed capacity of 3,500 tonnes per annum.

MUMBAI: SHARJAH Free Zones Authority is organising a business convention shortly in Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore which will be attended by a high power delegation from Sharjah.
