
FICCI meet
MUMBAI: Federation of Indian Cahmbers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) and the Institute of Intellectual Property Development (IIPD) jointly organised a training programme on the Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) recently. H D Thakur, Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks, said the existing laws relating to IPRs were inadequate to cope with the new challenges emerging from the establishment of WTO.
Silver reacts
MUMBAI: Prices of silver and gold slid on the the bullion market on Thursday. Ready silver (.999) and tenderable silver reacted by Rs 65 each to close at Rs 8155 and Rs 8160 . Raw silver fell by Rs 75 to end at Rs 8035. Standard gold declined by Rs 15 to close at Rs 4200. 22-carat gold was nominally quoted weak at Rs 3885. Ten-tola gold bar fell by Rs 250 to Rs 49,350.
Markets closed
MUMBAI: The principal markets including bullion, oilseeds and oils exchange, grains, cotton exchange and spices markets will be closed on Friday, while sugar,metal exchange and vegetable markets will be opened for half-day on account of "Raksha Bandhan". However, BSE and NSE will remain open as usual.
Qantas Airways
MUMBAI: Qantas Airways, Australia’s leading air carrier, introduced its seventh direct flight to Sydney, via Singapore, from August 6. With this addition, Qantas will now fly every day of the week from Mumbai to Singapore and Sydney. It will operate the modern Boeing 767-300 aircraft. Qantas has a fleet of 99 aircraft and a staff of 30,000 spread across 105 locations.
